Located within the Batticaloa municipal, head-to-head to Batticaloa lagoon, the site comprises of mixture of wetland habitats. The wetland area extends to approximately 75 ha. The site is well-known for its bird habitation. Birds local and migrant could be observed at this site throughout the year. The bush type mangroves attract large number of birds to the area.
Sathrukondan means “enemy was killed” in Tamil, a historically given name. The village is located around 3km from Batticaloa town. It’s an ideal place to visit if you like to understand the life style and culture of Batticaloa villages influenced by urbanization. You could also visit the Agriculture department training center and the swiss tsunami resettlement village.
